Milan

Milan, historic football destination!

One of the most beautiful cities in Europe opens its doors to you for a football weekend. Tourists flock here all year round, driven by different motivations. Yours is to discover Milan through its stadium, and to get to know the city for a few days. Let us guide you on some unmissable spots for your Inter Milan football trip .

It is well known that Milan is the capital of fashion. It is often said that Italians, and especially the Milanese, have very good taste in clothing. It’s up to you to judge!

If you come here to do your shopping, you will be spoilt for choice in terms of shops. Of course you will find the “classics” of ready-to-wear, but if saving money is not your priority, go to Via Montenapoleone and Via della Spiga. Opposite you, luxury boutiques from all over the world, grouped together in a small area in the heart of Milan. Even if you’re not planning to buy anything, the fronts and windows of the fashion headliners are worth a look!

For more cultural moments, Milan also has an impressive heritage. Among other Renaissance palaces, take a trip to the Sforza Castle, a place worth a visit for the museum it houses as well as for its architecture and history.

On the road to Giuseppe Meazza

For the must-see visit to Milan, the place is called Piazza del Duomo. As well as being a strategic location for your city activities, this magnificent square is the esplanade of the city’s most beautiful monument, the Duomo Cathedral. For an unforgettable memory of your visit to Milan, offer yourself access to the cathedral’s terraces for a splendid view of Milan and the stunning details of this construction: goldsmith’s work!

Once again, shopping enthusiasts can enjoy the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, which starts in Piazza del Duomo.

What we do not usually recommend is a visit to the Monumental Cemetery of Milan. A cemetery like no other and which bears its name very well. Here every grave is a funerary work of art. The size of the tombs is totally disproportionate to what we are used to seeing all over Europe.

As you can see, Milan is not simply going to keep you busy for a weekend. But don’t forget why you have come !

Giuseppe Meazza

Opening

Sept 1926

Capacité

80 000

If we think of stadiums that have left their mark on the history of this sport, this one is among the first. For the purists, it is a real football pilgrimage site. Welcome to the Giuseppe Meazza, a unique stadium.

Unique first of all for its size: this concrete colossus has a capacity of 80,000, making it the largest stadium in Italy. It is also unique for its configuration, its ultra-sloping stands, its huge roof, and its recognisable spiral access towers to the stands. The Giuseppe Meazza is truly a stadium apart.

The other originality is the fact that this stadium is home to two professional football teams, two of the city’s rival teams. AC Milan was established there in 1926 and was joined by Inter in 1947. The result? A two-faced stadium that comes alive with derbies and divides the city and the world in two. So divided that the supporters of each clan gave the stadium a different name (San Siro for AC Milan and Giuseppe Meazza for Inter)! The choice is Cornelian, because these two clubs carry within them a part of the history of this sport which they have in turn sublimated in the past. And even if their teams have been struggling to get to the top on first-name terms lately, they remain no less competitive.

Last curtain call…

The bad news is that there is not much time left to get there. Indeed, the project to demolish the stadium has been confirmed for 2019, and the stadium is in its final hours. It will surely see the birth of a magnificent new stadium, expected in 2025 and whose plans are still under study, but the demolition of the Giuseppe Meazza will leave a bitter taste in the mouths of football fans. Don’t wait any longer if you want to make your Inter Milan football trip.
